In this area there is evidence for three successive Pleistocene glaciations, each of which was less extensive than the preceding one. The first two glaciations were separated by a long interval. The third is fairly well established as a distinct event but may possibly represent a phase of the preceding stage. In any case the third glaciation is undoubtedly equivalent to all or to part of the Wisconsin stage.
