A special furnace has been constructed for the purpose of measuring the absolute f-values of lines in spectra of astrophysical interest. The method, that of total absorp- tion, is described, and results obtained in the course of the preliminary work are given. For the line X 3261 of cadmium an f-value of 0.0023 was obtained, in good agreement with the values obtained by other investigators. For the copper resonance lines XX 3247 and 3274 the results are 0.62 and 0.32, respectively
