MCHF calculations for1S and1P Rydberg states in Ca I

Calculations are reported of lifetimes for 1 S Rydberg states in Ca I based on previously published MCHF wavefunctions for the 1 S states. To obtain these lifetimes, MCHF calculations for 1 P Rydberg states have been carried out and are reported. The question of the identification of the 3d4p 1 P perturber in the 4snp 1 P series is discussed and f values are reported for seven 4s 2 1 S to 1 P transitions. The calculations suggest a new view of the problem concerning the whereabouts of the perturber. Comparisons are made with the results of MQDT analysis.
