It is proposed that (1) the three broad, weak depressions at XX 6362, 6344, and 6319 in the solar spectrum correspond to the transitions in a multiplet of the Ca I atom and (2) their diffuse character results from the fact that the atom is subject to auto-ionization when it is in the upper state of the transition.
