A boat-shaped 1,4-cyclohexadiene-like ring is present in the C60 molecule with a novel σ-type μ3-η1,η2,η1 bonding mode in the clusters 2 a and 2 b. The change in coordination mode was induced by insertion of an RNC ligand into an Os−Os bond of the π-type C60 complex 1. R=CH2C6H5.
