Line narrowing occurring in backscatter fluorescence has been investigated for doing Doppler free molecular spectroscopy. The theory has been put into a suitable form. The P–R line spacing in the (0,0,0)2Π3/2← (1,0,0)2Π3/2 band of the A 2Πu←X 2Πg system of BO2 have been measured.
