Experimental characterization demonstrates sodium and mercury vapor pressures over high-temperature amalgams, highlighting thermodynamic limits for high-pressure sodium lamps.
The vapor pressures over sodium amalgams have been determined for compositions from 55 to 90 atm percent Na, at temperatures from 500°C to 700°C. The data have been treated to allow the calculations of PNa and PHg at any composition and temperature within the stated limits.
