Many different theories can be found in the literature coping with the decomposition of powers and currents in electrical systems under non‐sinusoidal conditions. The main difference between them lies in the domain where the decomposition is obtained. This paper analyses both a time‐domain and a frequency‐domain decomposition of powers and currents in three‐phase systems and shows how the comparison between their results gives much more information than the results of a single decomposition about the load identification and the way the non‐active components of power and current can be compensated.
