Teaching methods and materials developed and shared by instructors in the economics literature primarily focus on creating resources that can be integrated into existing undergraduate economics courses. However, a growing body of research describes the development and design of innovative economics courses that are not typically found in economics departments. This paper reviews twenty-three studies on such courses and examines their specificities. Three key trends emerge in these innovative courses: (1) emphasizing skill development and professional standards, (2) incorporating alternative teaching philosophies and schools of thought, and (3) using transversals to engage and attract students to the study of economics.
