The proton-deuteron and proton-proton differential scattering cross sections have been measured with a 9.7-Mev cyclotron external proton beam and with photographic plates as detectors of the scattered particles. In both interactions the angular distributions are similar to those observed at lower energies, and the total cross sections are in good agreement with reasonable extrapolations of the low energy data. The p-d data show some evidence for deuteron disintegration. Neglecting spin-orbit coupling, the p-p data are consistent with pure S wave scattering with a phase shift of 57.8^∘{}±{}1.2^∘{}.
