A cage structure with two quadruply bridging peroxo groups forms the center of the organoantimony peroxide 1 (R o-tolyl), which is readily accessible by oxidation of the corresponding tetraaryldistibane with atmospheric oxygen and H2O2. The protecting periphery of o-tolyl groups is responsible for the good solubility of the antimony–oxygen cage.
