Bright drew attention to the fact that in cases of albuminuria there was frequently found hypertrophy of the heart. Traube and Cohnheim correctly interpreted the cardiac hypertrophy as due to increased blood pressure. The association of arterial hypertension with Bright's disease was thus early established.
