Policy review identifies governance barriers and funding opportunities for health systems, highlighting pathways toward climate resilience in small island states.
Objective To assess the barriers and opportunities to strengthening climate-resilient health systems in the Eastern Caribbean. Design and methods Information was extracted from desk reviews of the National Health Adaptation Plans for Climate Change (2022–2023). SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analyses informed plan preparation. Results Barriers included inadequate enabling governance and weak multisectoral collaboration. Opportunities included strong political commitment, inter-ministerial committees, and access to climate and health financing. Conclusion Caribbean small island states are well positioned to apply adaptation and mitigation measures to build climate-resilient health systems.
