Advances renal NO pathway mapping; leaves open functional roles and therapeutic targeting in cardiorenal disease.
Nitric oxide (NO) plays an important role in the regulation of renal function. To date, five isoforms of NO synthase (NOS) and four subunits of soluble guanylyl cyclase have been cloned. The kidney contains four isoforms of NOS and all subunits of soluble guanylyl cyclase. 2. This review focuses on the intrarenal location of the isoforms of NOS and the subunits of soluble guanylyl cyclase.
