Bacterial blight potentially is a very destructive disease of cotton. It oc curs in most areas of the world where the crop is grown, and becomes espe cially troublesome where wind-driven rains or sprinkler irrigation dissemi nate the pathogen throughout the growing season. Control has been achieved in the Republic of Sudan through a carefully executed costly program of sanitation ( 105) . When bacterial blight became a problem under sprinkler irrigation in California, control was obtained through sanitation and quarantine measures ( 108 ) .
