Cooperative competitive adsorption of two different types of monomer species on a one-dimensional lattice composed of identical sites is solved exactly for any chain length by the use of the matrix method (Model A). It is assumed that the adsorbed species mutually interact with each other by first nearest-neighbor interactions. Detailed general matrix operators are given for the well-known case of identical monomer molecules adsorbing to a polymer composed of two different kinds of sites (Model B). Matrix operators for a third and more complex model are presented: two different types of monomer species adsorbing on two types of adsorption sites (Model C). As an experimental example the binding of iodine and triiodide to helical amylose is treated according to Model A for the first time. Satisfactory agreement between our experimental data and this theoretical model is obtained.
