Using diazonium derivatives as the precursors for particle protection, stable titanium nanocrystals were prepared by virtue of the strong Ti−C covalent bonds. The lattice fringes revealed in HRTEM studies unambiguously confirmed the metallic nature of the particle cores. This notion was further supported by spectroscopic and solid-state conductivity measurements.
