Diamant, B. and B. Fredholm. Effect of glucose and sodium succinate on oxygen uptake and histamine release in rat and guinea‐pig lung tissue in vitro. Acta physiol. scand. 1963. 59. 193–198.—Previous reports on the effect of sodium succinate and glucose on histamine release and oxygen uptake in guinea‐pig and rat lung tissue have been somewhat conflicting, and difficult to interpret. The present study was undertaken to determine whether the effect of the aforementioned substrates on histamine release could be correlated to their effect on the oxygen uptake. The results have shown that such a correlation exists in some but not all of the reactions investigated. The hazards of interpreting correlations between oxygen uptake and histamine release in lung tissue are pointed out.
