A result is obtained for the conductivity of a liquid metal in the effective-medium approximation, which reduces to Velicky's coherent-potential-approximation result for the crystalline-alloy case. A variational-derivative technique is used which is similar to that which Popielawski used to obtain the Gyorffy-Korringa-Mills result. Vertex corrections are included, and the result represents the generalization of the Ziman formula to include multiple-scattering effects.
