THIS paper presents field data for chiseling in sandy loam and loamy sand soils of Delaware coastal plains. The draft of a subsoiler with straight shanks mounted at an inclination to the vertical was found to be lower than for a subsoiler with curved shanks. The draft of a subsoiler with inclined, straight shank changed as the square of the travel speed and was proportional to operating depth.
