Copper single crystals have been pre-strained in tension and subjected to fatigue treatments at various temperatures between 78° and 293°K. Softening is observed when the applied fatigue stress produces striations and the magnitude of the stress necessary for this at any one temperature depends weakly on the degree of pre-strain.
