Cost-effectiveness of minimally invasive cardiac surgery remains uncertain; high-quality analyses are needed to guide adoption and future trials.
As the focus of cardiac surgery moves from simple mortality endpoints to more quality-of-life metrics, the importance of minimally invasive surgery has grown. Yet to assess the true value that these innovations bring to people, we must determine the cost efficacy of the technology. Proponents of this technology claim that these advanced technologies translate to decreased cost and decreased morbidity. Numerous studies have been conducted in an attempt to clarify this issue.
