The crystal structure, and structurally sensitive properties of transition metal hydrides are reviewed with particular emphasis of vanadium group and rare earth hydrides. The existing ideas concerning the chemical bond in these substances, and the interpretation of the experimental data recently obtained are presented in some detail.
