We report a new measurement of parity-non-conserving optical rotation in the vicinity of the allowed magnetic-dipole ( M 1) transition at 648 nm in atomic bismuth. We obtain R = Im ( E 1 PNC / M 1) = (-9.8 ± 0.9) · 10 -8 , consistent with earlier measurements carried out in Oxford and Moscow, but not with the result from Novosibirsk.
