Pilot validation study demonstrates cross-domain viability tracking across diverse systems, suggesting standardized resilience profiling is broadly applicable.
This article presents the first pilot interdisciplinary test of the Vitology metrological framework developed in G27–G33. The study examines whether a common architecture for investigating viability can be applied across systems of different nature while preserving domain-specific indicators and measurement units. Four test domains are examined: the U.S. electricity distribution system using U.S. Energy Information Administration data; the Great Barrier Reef using Australian Institute of Marine Science data; NHS England as an organizational-social system; and national-institutional systems represented through the World Bank Worldwide Governance Indicators. Five properties are evaluated in each pilot: Operationalizability (O1), Comparability (O2), Dynamic Informativeness (O3), Cross-Domain Portability (O4), and Failure Points (O5). The technical pilot demonstrates the possibility of distinguishing baseline grid reliability from the additional burden associated with major events. The ecological pilot identifies different recovery trajectories across regions of the Great Barrier Reef following the 2024 mass bleaching event. The organizational-social pilot reveals asynchronous recovery across different NHS England functions and demonstrates the need for multidimensional profiling. The national-institutional pilot shows that profile and trajectory logic can be extended to aggregated non-physical indicators while simultaneously revealing stronger limitations in causal interpretation. The results do not establish the universal validity of Vitology metrology. They do, however, provide preliminary evidence that the common sequence System → State → Disturbance → Response → Recovery/Adaptation → Profile → Change → Trajectory can retain operational meaning across technical, ecological, organizational-social, and national-institutional systems. Based on the pilot, the article introduces the concepts of Cross-Domain Viability Portability (CDVP), Domain-Specific Operationalization (DSO), Viability Metrology Transfer Test (VMTT), Metrological Core Invariance (MCIv), and Domain Limitation Profile (DLP).
