Four cases of antibiotic-induced enterocolitis are presented. This syndrome may assume the form of minor diarrhea with minimal changes on sigmoidoscopic examination and normal findings on barium examination; alternatively, fulminating fatal diarrhea with extensive ulceration of colon and small bowel mucosa may occur. The radiologic findings on barium examination are not specific and can not be differentiated from other inflammatory bowel diseases. Furthermore, postantibiotic pseudomembranous colitis can not be distinguished from acute ulcerating colitis without pseudomembrane formation.
