Because peripheral renin activity was low and unresponsive to intravenous administration of furosemide or to an orthostatic position and because fludrocortisone seemed effective in reversing hyponatremia, the authors suggested that a primary disorder in the renin-aldosterone axis may partly explain this hyponatremia. We report two similar cases of salt wasting in elderly persons and comment on this hypothesis.Two men with chronic dementia aged 81 and 85 years had hyponatremia ( 126 to 128...References1.
