A double-reversal experiment involving ten cows from the Cornell University Dairy Herd was used to detect the effect of the daily feeding of 1/~ lb. of sodium propionate on milk production, butterfat test, hay consumption, blood sugar and blood ketone levels. There were no significant differences (P < 0.05) in the milk production, hay consumption, blood sugar levels, blood ketone levels, or weight gains or losses attributed to the feeding of sodium propionate. There was a slight but nonsignificant fall in butterfa~ test.
