Experimental synthesis reveals a novel monoclinic nesophosphate structure for chromium phosphate monohydrate at high pressure, expanding transition metal phosphate crystal chemistry.
The new chromium(III) phosphate monohydrate Cr(PO 4 )·H 2 O has been synthesized in a Walker-type module under high-pressure/high-temperature conditions of 9 GPa and 1,000 °C. It crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P 2 1 / n (no. 14) with the cell parameters a = 6.1986(3) Å, b = 8.0938(3) Å, c = 6.2494(2) Å, β = 91.661(2)°, V = 313.40(2) Å 3 and Z = 4. Cr(PO 4 )·H 2 O possesses a novel nesophosphate structure with units of two edge-sharing CrO 5 (H 2 O) octahedra.
