Analytical review evaluates mathematical frameworks for subsurface imaging and parameter estimation, indicating a strong integration of wavefield theory with practical software algorithms.
This analytical review examines the scientific conception, structure, distinctive features, and principal results of the book “Subsurface Image and Estimation of Medium Parameters in Seismic Exploration.” Particular attention is given to the unified conceptual sequence from seismic imaging and focusing to wavefield kinematics and dynamics, medium-parameter estimation, interpretation, algorithms, and software implementation. The review discusses the role of traveltime-field derivatives, the NIP theorem, multifocusing, kinematic filtering, the spherical-mirror method, seismic-stratigraphic stacking, migration and demigration, the inverse dynamic problem in a viscoelastic medium, RGB seismic imaging, and the CubeTechnology system. It also considers the book’s connection with the traditions of the Novosibirsk school of seismics. Several scientific formulations that may require additional clarification are analyzed, including the recovery of viscoelastic-medium parameters, the role of frequency, attenuation and quality factor, the interpretation of CDP as a limiting case of migration, the imaging of specular boundaries, and the physical interpretation of RGB seismic attributes. The review concludes that the book represents an authorial mathematical and physical conception of seismic imaging and medium-parameter estimation, developed from theoretical formulations through algorithms and software implementation to applications on synthetic and real seismic data.
