Last summer I attended the fifth meeting of the Comité Spéciale de l'Année Géophysique Internationale (CSAGI) in Moscow as one of the Canadian delegates. En route to the meetings I traveled through New York, Brussels, Helsinki, and Leningrad. From Moscow I flew to the Caucasus Mountains and to the oil fields in Tataria between the Volga River and the Urals. I returned to Canada through Peking, Sian, Lanchow, Canton, Hong Kong, Taipeh, Maioli, and Tokyo. I found that the governments of all the countries which I visited were generous in giving me opportunities to see the geophysical work being done under their jurisdiction. I was invited to go to some places such as Tataria and Peking, but it was I who proposed other visits such as those to Sian, Lanchow, and the Caucasus.
