It is predicted that, under certain conditions, the acoustic response of a thin-walled, tubular, air-backed fiber-optic hydrophone will exceed that predicted by the usual quasistatic approximations. Measurements of the acoustically induced optical phase shift for a fiber wound, thin-walled tube are presented to confirm the reasonableness of this prediction.
