Six evolutionary sequences representing the collapse of a spherical isothermal gas cloud are presented. The character of the collapse is found to be influenced by the ratio of the free-fall time to the sound travel time from the surface of the sphere to the center. The effects of the surface boundary condition and the initial density distribution on the evolution are discussed with reference to this parameter
