Ligand field theory of complex formation by ions of the first transition series, theoretical treatment: Data (ΔH and ΔS)

Complex formation is discussed in terms of a molecular orbital model, and the energies of pairing d electrons in octahedral complexes are given in terms of atomic spectral parameters. The results are used to interpret Pauling's magnetic criterion and the variation of the heat of formation of a complex with change of central metal ion.
