Platinum resistance thermometers with strain free windings which are smaller than those previously used are described, and the method of construction is given.By double helical winding the coil of a 25 ohm thermometer is reduced to about 5 mm diameter and 2 cm length, and the outside diameter of the ther- mometer is about the same as that of the ordinary mercury-in-glass thermometer. These thermometers are hermetically sealed, and thermometric lag is reduced by filling them with helium.
