A design of broadband circular microstrip antenna with embedded reactive loading directly matched to a 50 Ω microstrip feed line is presented. This design is achieved owing to the integrated reactive loading, a T-shaped microstrip-line section embedded in a nearly rectangular slot cut near the patch edge, which significantly broadens the antenna bandwidth and makes the input impedance seen along the patch boundary varied. The latter behavior makes direct matching of the proposed broadband circular microstrip antenna with a 50 Ω microstrip feed line feasible.
