The polymerization of acrylonitrile in presence of Cu(I), Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cd(II) bromides was investigated. The infrared spectrum of the formed AN‐Cu(II) bromide polymer complex shows the absence of the CN band and the presence of two new bands corresponding to NH2 and OH groups. These bands are not found with the other metal bromide polymer complexes. It seems that Cu(II) is reduced to the stable Cu(I) during the polymerization of AN‐Cu(II) bromide.
