INFRARED APPLICATIONS The characterization of pulp samples is difficult and tedious due to the complex nature of pulp. Traditional spectrophotometric methods since 1991, such as FTIR, have been used for wood and pulp analyses (Backa & Brolin, [1]; Wallbacks et al. [2–4]; Friesse & Banerjee, [5]; Kimura et al. [6]; Chen et al. [7]), near hared (NIR) (Schultz & Burns, [8]; Wright et al. [9]; Easty et al. [10]; Sollinger & Diamantoglou, [11]; Sanderson et al. [12]; Antti et al. [13]; Schimleck et al. [14]; Tsuchikawa & Tsutsumi, [15]; Berardo, [16]), NMR/NIR (Wallbacks et al. [17]), NMWTIR (Gilardi et al. [18]), NMRAR (Hemminson & Wong, [19]) and DRIFT FTIR (Bouchard & Douek, [20]; Femandez et al. [21]; Sun et al. [22]; Yamamoto et al. [23]; Kataoka & Kondo, [24]; Manville & Nault, [25]).
