Many polymers are converted into a final product by being forced through a die at high temperatures, followed by cooling or reaction to yield the desired shape. Many dies are tapered to reduce the pressure drop required for a given flow rate. While the literature on polymer flow is vast, our understanding of the flow of viscoelastic fluids in converging dies is still in its developmental stage.
