Why the study?
Is there an association between parathyroid hormone levels and left ventricular hypertrophy or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?
Population
18 patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and 6 patients with hypercalcaemia alone

PTH elevation was associated with LVH in HCM without hypercalcemia; leaves open causal role and screening utility in prospective studies.
Is there an association between parathyroid hormone levels and left ventricular hypertrophy or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy?
Parathyroid hormone, rather than extracellular calcium concentration, appears to be associated with left ventricular hypertrophy, suggesting a need for echocardiographic screening in hyperparathyroidism and PTH screening in unexplained LVH.
