We predict that the branching ratio of a core-hole-to-valence-band dipole spectrum of a magnetically ordered metal compound can have a strong polarization dependence. This circular dichroism of the branching ratio can be used to assess the local magnetic structure of transition-metal and rare-earth compounds for which no details of the multiplet structure are observed.
