Measurements are reported of rolling speed difference, line pressure and roller cover indentation when a rigid roller is pressed into contact with roller coverings of rubber and other materials. Good agreement is shown between the experimental results and a theory of cover indentation under load; on the other hand, calculations of maximum cover tangential surface strain have been found to overestimate the rolling speed differences measured.
