Experimental study demonstrates enhanced mechanical properties in dissimilar welded aluminum alloys using scandium filler composites, highlighting improved joint integrity.
The TIG welding was conducted on AA5052-H32 and AA5083-H111 with specified parameters current, gas flow rate and filler rods (ER5356 and scandium). In this investigation, novel filler rods were fabricated by the scandium particles (0.25 and 0.50%) and ER5356 filler base material. Some defects were identified joints made by ER5356 filler rods without using of scandium. The mechanical properties were enhanced with joints were made by ER5356 and scandium composite (0.50%) filler rods along the current at 195 A and gas flow rate at 11 L/min. The microstructure of fusion zone composed of intermetallic phase Mg2Si with fine grain refinement. The fracture surfaces of tensile exhibits fine dimple and their ductile fracture mode was attained through the fractography investigation.
