Enigmatic Thanatology

Thanatology has so far focused on practical discussions of aspects of death, including the initiation of the body into funeral processions, grief, and its relationship with various disciplines oriented toward achieving individual theological spirituality. Contemporary phenomena have shifted perceptions of funeral services, viewing them as expressions of social spirituality through luxurious, expensive services. The main problem this paper analyzes is how posture shifts the meaning of luxury funeral services, as well as how the structure of spirituality does. This article aims to analyze the aforementioned problems. data were collected using netnography, a method that involves collecting data from online sources and combining them with document analysis. This research found a shift in attitudes toward funeral services, which are increasingly viewed as expressions of social spirituality expressed through the provision of luxurious and expensive services. This shift is evidenced by, first, the existence of luxurious funeral services; second, the enthusiasm of the community to glorify the body; and third, the existence of a luxury service competition for the deceased. Based on the findings, the study concludes that thanatology should be expanded beyond its traditional focus to encompass broader sociocultural dimensions of death, adopting a more interdisciplinary approach.
