Identify clinical and therapeutic factors associated with the recovery of left ventricular ejection fraction in patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction.
Enrolled 89 patients (mean age 62.5 ± 10.6 years) with acute myocardial infarction and a baseline left ventricular ejection fraction under 50% between January and December 2004.
Classified patients into Group I (LVEF improvement > 10%, n=45) and Group II (LVEF unchanged or decreased, n=44) to compare clinical variables, angiographic findings, and pharmacological treatments.
Pain-to-door time was significantly shorter in Group I than in Group II (6.0 ± 9.5 vs 22.4 ± 7.5 hours, p=0.046).
Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor use was significantly more frequent in Group I compared to Group II (79.3% vs 47.4%, p=0.03).
Cardiovascular risk factors, infarct location, percutaneous coronary intervention success rates, and the use of beta-blockers or statins showed no significant differences between groups.
