Interest in fundamental biochemical processes of mineralization in osteoid led to a study of rachitic calf costal junctions in respect to a profile of phospholipids. Currently, chloroformmethanol extracts of rachitic and normal costochondral junctions were applied to thin‐layer silica gel chromatograms, and the phospholipids thereby separated were quantitated in terms of phosphorus content of the eluted spots. Striking differences between normal and rachitic tissues were found in respect to this profile of phospholipids.
