SUMMARY A rich fauna of Arundian (early Viséan) age has been identified from dark grey well bedded limestones in the Dyserth area of North Wales. Hitherto, this fauna has been considered to be of Asbian or Brigantian age (late Viséan), but additional sampling, together with re-examination of specimens from the British Geological Survey Collection and figured material of Neaverson (1929), has established the Arundian age. The coral/brachiopod assemblages are described and compared with the Dinantian of south Cumbria (Arnside Fauna) and the Northern, Central and South-Western Provinces of Britain and Ireland.
