Nowadays, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are extensively investigated by the research community because it converts chemical energy into electrical energy with high efficiency and without the need for burning fuel. Therefore, this work investigates the influence of phase, microstructure and conductivity on the Sr-doped LaGaO3 system for SOFC applications. The Sr-doped LaGaO3 system is synthesized using a simple and effective solid-state reaction method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) are employed to investigate the crystal structure and morphology, respectively. The XRD results reveal single-phase formation in all the synthesized samples. Additionally, these samples have a relative density greater than 95%. The conductivities of LSG-0 (LaGaO3), LSG-5 (La0.95Sr0.05GaO2.975) and LSG-10 (La0.9Sr0.1GaO2.95) at 800°C are 0.015, 1.21 and 1.45 mS/cm, respectively. It is observed that the 10 mol% Sr-doped LaGaO3 exhibits the highest electrical conductivity among these samples.
