Naegleria fowleri and Acanthamoeba culbertsoni were found to be more susceptible to killing by the antifungal antibiotic, sinefungin, a known inhibitor of transmethylases, than by dl-α-difluorome thylornithine (DFMO), a specific inhibitor of ornithine decarboxylase. In addition, the data showed that N. fowleri was far more susceptible to killing by sinefungin and DMFO than was A. culbertsoni.
