Values are reported for the piezoelectric coefficients d31 and d3h, of highly oriented one-way drawn polyvinylidene fluoride. Samples were compared with high Form I content following two preparation procedures, one giving material of low Young's modulus by drawing to a conventional draw ratio and the other of high Young's modulus by drawing to a very high draw ratio. It was found that for comparable poling procedures, the high draw ratio sample showed a much higher value for d3h and a slightly reduced value for d31 A tentative explanation of these results is proposed.
